Studying Reflection

Last Saturday, I visited London again but this time to do something very different. The day was focused upon studying photographic diffusion and reflection and with an emphasis on trying new locations or those that I’ve not been to for some time. It required a lot of walking, racking up about 25,000 steps from my watch, but it was an adventure. Did I get any fantastic shots? Perhaps one or two, but what I really got out of the day was fine-tuning my eye and composition skills when dealing with complex opportunities. For example, the above shot was discovered near the John Lewis store on Bond Street. The store has a balcony that surrounds it, which also has a crumpled mirror layer underneath it. I nearly walked past it, basically because the images didn’t look promising - too complex. So, it was a challenge. Each image was taken with the camera shooting directly overhead and then the image being turned upside down so that it made any sense. I love the shapes and distortion in this image.

The above photograph is also an experimental shot. This was taken through two old British telephone boxes, so four panes of glass in total. The telephone boxes were locked so it was impossible to get inside them, so I decided to try and shoot through them - waiting for the right subjects to come into view.
