Nature’s Colouring Book

Saltwick Bay is a small outcrop of rock and sand located near the Yorkshire coastal town of Whitby. It is made famous by its beauty and a large strutting rock called the ‘Black Nab’ and the decaying remains of a wrecked ship nearby. I have tried to photograph the ‘Black Nab’ on a previous occasion but the weather was simply not that good, so this was my second attempt. However, the sky was once again not playing ball - it was brilliant blue without a cloud - not perfect landscape weather. Descending the steep cliff, I reached the rocky part of the beach and was immediately taken back by how slippy it still was and the explosion of colours surrounding me. The above photograph was one of several capturing the natural pavement of slabs underfoot.

Unfortunately, I was so taken back by the colours around me that I forgot all about the ‘Black Nab’. I had abandoned the attempt due to the poor skyline and stated to return back to Whitby. However, nature had a second explosion of colours and I managed to capture a shot of the Whitby Abbey, made famous by Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
